‘Game Of Thrones’ Prequel “The Hedge Knight” To Be Made Into A Series For HBO

Must Read

George R.R. Martin’s “Dunk and Egg” books, which lays the foundation of the “Games of Thrones” (GOT) prequel, will continue to be streamed at HBO. This was announced during a Warner Bros. presentation to the press and investors on April 12.

It was announced that the HBO Max and Discovery + streaming services when combined will be called Max.  The show is based on the series of Martin’s fantasy novellas about the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and a young Aegon Targaryen (Egg) which is set 90 years before the events of “A Song of Ice and Fire”.

“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” is the title of the prequel series.

The official logline is as follows:

“A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

For the TV series, Martin will be the writer and executive producer in collaboration with Ira Parker, who served as a co-executive producer on Season 1 of “House of the Dragon”, while Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis of “Game of Thrones” and “House of the Dragon” will serve as the executive producers.

Martin’s novel series “Tales of Dunk and Egg” includes “The Hedge Knight” published in 1998, “The Sworn Sword” in 2003, and “The Mystery Knight” in 2010. In 2015, the three novellas were arranged and published together as “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”.

Following the global success of “Game of Thrones,” the premium cabler decided to continue with several series based on Martin’s fantasy world. This is the recent Westeros-based project at HBO.

“House of the Dragon” was the only project to move forward before the latest projects were announced as being in development for the next few years. The series premiered its first season in August 2022 and headed to Season 2 renewal less than a week after it launched. Season 2 is currently under production. It is also reported that HBO is also planning a series based on Aegon’s Conquest.
