After 47 years, the historical leader of the OPR, Louis Serge Clair decided to retire. The delegates of the party were called to elect their new leader on Sunday. Francisco François and Franchette Gaspard-Pierre Louis were the two people who were expected to succeed Serge Clair.
And the choice of the delegates of the party labouzie has therefore fallen on the PPS Francisco François and the Minority Leader Franchette Gaspard Pierre-Louis will assume the position of deputy leader.
Francisco François thanked Serge Clair for his great contribution in the political, social and economic life of the island. He said he wanted to draw inspiration from the qualities of his predecessor to continue the fight undertaken by the latter in 1976.
During the assembly of delegates of the OPR yesterday morning in Rodrigues, it was Serge Clair who announced the result. Clair also declared that a politician must serve his people and that he has confidence in the new team.
