Founding Director of Ramayan Centre Mauritius, Shri Rajendra Arun, Dies

Shri Rajendra Arun, the prominent scholar of Ramayana and Indian philosophy breathed his last today. He was the founder and president of Ramayana Centre, Mauritius. The government of Mauritius, upon his request, had set up the foundation to promote and propagate the spiritual, social and cultural values of Ramayana in Mauritius.

Rajendra Arun was known throughout the world for his vast knowledge, understanding and his books on Ramayana. His radio programme on Mauritian National Radio has been heard far and wide since 1983. Some of his famous books are Hari Katha Anantra, published in 1983 and Manas Mein Nari, published in 2010. His narration style of Ramayana was said to be one of the best, articulate and lucid.

Born on July 29, 1945 in Naravapitambarpur village in Faizabad district, Uttar Pradesh, India, Shri Rajendra Arun went to Mauritius after pursuing Journalism from Allahabad University. In 1973, he became the managing editor of the ‘Janata’ Hindi weekly owned by the then Prime Minister Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam. He had also been appointed the representative of ‘Samachar’ and United News of India (UNI).

Rajendra Arun shall be remembered for his unique style of telling and interpreting the Ramayana which engaged audiences and readers in a manner that was exquisite.
