Mohammad Shabbeer Russun, 22, was killed in the early hours of Sunday morning on the Royal Road in Balaclava. The bar tender at Ravenala Hotel was returning home to Pitot Valley on his Pulsar motorcycle when he was involved in an accident. All indications are that the young man skidded on his two-wheeled machine. The personnel of an ambulance of the Emergency Medical Service (Samu), mandated on the spot could unfortunately only note that this young man already gave up the soul.
It was around 00:35 on Sunday morning, January 8, that police officers from the Terre-Rouge police station were called to an accident on the Royal Road of Balaclava near Balaclava Shop-In. A black motorcycle was lying on this road near a tree and the driver was beside it. The driver was motionless and not breathing. A doctor on board the ambulance of the Samu noticed his death at 2:25 am this Sunday morning.
It was his co-workers who were driving on the same road who found Shabbeer Russun and his motorcycle on the asphalt. They are the ones who alerted the police. The young man preferred to go home on his motorcycle to avoid the transport of the hotel which must make several stops to drop off other employees before.
Shabbeer Russun former student of the James Burty David SSS and the Sir Gaëtan Duval Hotel School has worked in several hotels in the north of the island. In 2018, he had worked on a cruise ship. Moreover, he was planning to return. He was waiting for an answer to that effect. This young man had a lot of dreams. He wanted to offer a better life to his mother and his little sister. But fate decided otherwise.
Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Office gave instructions that the body be transported to the morgue of the northern hospital, before it was transferred to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis. Dr. Chamane who performed the autopsy on the body of this young man concluded that his death was due to a rupture of the liver.
Shabbeer Russun’s funeral took place on Sunday, January 8 at 1:30 pm. He was buried in the Riche-Terre cemetery.
