Fight At The Rehabilitation Youth Centre (RYC) In Beau-Bassin

Must Read

The police had a lot to do at the Rehabilitation Youth Centre (RYC) of Beau-Bassin in the early evening of Monday, September 13. This after an argument between six residents of this institution that degenerated into a fight.  These girls, all minors, came to blows after a dispute. They even ransacked furniture before locking themselves in their rooms.

It was around 6 pm that a first incident broke out in this institution. The situation had quickly become unmanageable by the supervisory staff of this center. It was then that the Barkly police station in Beau-Bassin was alerted. Within minutes, a team of police officers and their colleagues from the Divisional Supporting Unit were on the scene.

In the meantime, the girls had already caused damage to the interior. They have destroyed several pieces of furniture in this RYC. When the police arrived, the girls locked themselves in their rooms. Firemen from Coromandel were asked to open the door of the room in which the six girls had locked themselves.

The Beau-Bassin RYC receives girls whose parents have difficulty controlling them (child beyond control). They are placed there by order of the magistrate.  The Beau-Bassin RYC can accommodate up to 40 of these girls until they are 18 years old.

An investigation has been initiated at the Barky police station to find out the origin of these incidents.
