Fifty-Year-Old Man Kills Himself Falling From A Mango Tree

Must Read

A tragedy occurred in the yard of the Aristide family at Bon Espoir Street, Rivière des Créoles on the morning of Sunday, January 8. Israel Johny Aristide, also known as Maxwell, 57 years old fell in his yard. He fell on a mango tree he climbed to pick. A branch broke and Johny Aristide landed on the ground by his head with both feet in the air against a wall. The personnel of an ambulance of the Emergency Medical Service (Samu) who was dispatched on the spot could only note his death.

It was around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, January 8, that this tragedy occurred. However, nothing is foreshadowed that this family was going to be plunged into mourning in this beginning of the year which however started well. Before lunch, Johny Aristide had a few drinks. At one point he climbed the mango tree in the yard to pick some fruit.

He was on a branch when it broke and he landed on his head with both feet hanging against a wall. The Mahebourg police station was immediately alerted. The police found the victim bleeding from the mouth and not breathing. A doctor from Samu who arrived on the scene was to pronounce him dead at 11:50 am.

His body was then taken to the Victoria Hospital morgue in Candos for an autopsy. The autopsy, performed by Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to a fracture of the cervical vertebrae.

The funeral of Israel Johny Aristide took place this Monday, January 9 at 1 pm. After the funeral ceremony at the Church of Our Lady of the Angels in Mahebourg, he was buried in the cemetery of Petit Bel Air.
