Fifty-Year-Old Dies In Fire

Must Read

Afeza Bibi Emamdee, née Bundhoo, 57, died in a fire in the early hours of Thursday, September 9, when her house caught fire at Bon Enfant Street, Plaine-Verte. Her body was discovered in front of her house by firefighters who came to put out the fire. The personnel of an ambulance from the Emergency Medical Service (Samu) who were called to the scene could only note the death of this woman.

It was shortly after 4.25am on Thursday 9 September that police officers from the Plaine-Verte police station went to the scene of the disaster. The fire brigade of the capital had already contained the fire in the two-room concrete house. The firemen later made a gruesome discovery. A woman was lying on her stomach. She was Afiza Emamdee, the owner of the house. The victim reportedly tried to escape the flames inside her house and succumbed to her burns.

Dr Appadoo, who came to the scene with a team from Samu, was unfortunately unable to confirm the death of the victim. After forensic technicians examined the fire scene, the body was taken to the morgue of the Dr A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis for an autopsy. The autopsy, conducted by Dr Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Office, attributed the death to shock due to extensive injuries.

Afeza Emandee’s funeral took place on the afternoon of Thursday 9 September. She was buried at the Riche-Terre cemetery.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances of the fire that claimed the life of this resident of Plaine-Verte.
