Notorious Recidivist Arrested For Theft Of Rs 2.5 Million

The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Grand Bay arrested Jean Jacky Joseph Charlot, a 35-year-old repeat offender from Camp Gervaise, Pavillon, Cap-Malheureux, in the early hours of Friday 10 September in connection with a burglary at the home of a French national in Pereybère. This was in relation to a burglary perpetrated at the home of a French national in Pereybère. The latter, who lives in Mauritius, is currently in Morocco. The suspect, who was subjected to close interrogation, confessed to being the author of the theft. Items worth Rs 2.5 million had been taken.

After an inventory, he found two TV sets, a pool table, three wooden beds with their mattresses, a TV table, a sideboard, a double-door refrigerator, a gas oven, a microwave oven, a dishwasher, a cupboard, two flower pots, a refrigerator, a washing machine, six lamps, a home cinema, a dryer, and a portable Bluetooth speaker.

It was the men of the Grand Bay CID, led by Inspector Thakoor, who solved the case. On Friday morning, September 10, at around 1:30 a.m., based on certain information, these police officers were conducting surveillance at Bali Road, Pereybere when they saw the suspect coming out of a house under construction. On seeing them, Jacky Charlot ran away. He was chased and managed to be subdued before being arrested.

He was taken to the CID office in Grand Bay for questioning. He soon confessed his involvement in the robbery of the Frenchman who was in Morocco. Jacky Charlot will be brought before the Pamplemousses court this Friday morning. He is facing a provisional charge of burglary.
