The outcome of the long-awaited meeting with the Ministry of Education has not been so conclusive. The Minister, Leela Devi Dookun has made several proposals but not a final solution. The New Federation of Managers is still calling for an independent body to review the allocation of grants.
Speaking to the press on the afternoon of Thursday, January 6, after the 10:30 am meeting at the Ministry of Education headquarters in Phoenix, the president of the Federation of Unions of Managers, Basheer Taleb did not change his claims. He said he was looking forward to “an independent body that could listen to everyone and then come up with proposals that would be based on principles that everyone agreed to. An independent body with Good Governance at its heart’.”
As a reminder, the source of these problems is the imposition of the justification of each of their current expenses to present the Project Plan of each intended development and to wait to receive approval from the PSEA before going ahead as well as the minimum reduction of 40% on the Block Grant of each school concerned.
The New Grant Formula, that is, the granting methods, was at the center of the discussions, but despite the Minister’s proposals, she could not agree on a solution to be adopted.
