The leaders of the l’Alliance l’Espoir were facing the press this morning. Xavier-Luc Duval, Paul Bérenger, Nando Bodha and Roshi Bhadain all dwelt on the possible appointment of Mes Shadmeenee Mootien and Yashvirsingh Roopun to the Electoral Supervisory Commission and the Electoral Supervisory Commission.
The Leader of the Opposition first said that he has responded to the letter he received from the Head of State. “I responded in strong terms. This is the first time that I have written a letter with such harsh language,” he said.
Xavier-Luc Duval said he hoped that the President of the Republic will not proceed with these nominations. If he does, warned the Leader of the Opposition, “he will cross a red line… it will be the death of democracy in Mauritius”.
Xavier-Luc Duval further added that the President of the Republic will “destroy any notion of independence and credibility associated with his office and these two institutions”.
Bérenger warns about a serious sanitary crisis after 1st October
For Paul Bérenger, after the reopening of the borders, the country could go through a serious health crisis. He was facing the press this morning together with the other leaders of the L’Espoir Platform.
Paul Bérenger cited the example of the Seychelles and explained that this country, like Mauritius, had reopened its borders to revive the tourism industry. However, Seychelles saw the number of cases of contamination and deaths multiply by 10 after the reopening of its borders.
Therefore, says Paul Berenger, the government and the population have to take the necessary precautions.
Air Mauritius: “We are witnessing the biggest takeover of Mauritius,” laments Bhadain
For the leader of the Reform Party, Government is offering all airport-related organisations to Ken Arian, who he described as a cook. Roshi Bhadain focused his speech at the press conference of the Espoir Platform on the situation at Air Mauritius. He first mentioned the fact that the two administrators will share the huge sum of more than Rs 47 million for 16 months of work. He added that in the recovery plan, there is also mention of Rs 100 million in legal and professional fees. He wondered to whom this huge amount will be allocated.
Then, speaking about the rescue of Air Mauritius, he said the government will take Rs 12 billion from the state coffers to save the national airline and offer it to Ken Arian… along with Airports of Mauritius, ATOL and the Mauritius Duty Free Paradise.
For Roshi Bhadain, this is further evidence of the government’s monopolisation of institutions.
