Divali, Festival Of Light On Darkness To Be Celebrated Tomorrow

Must Read

Divali, the festival of light over darkness and sharing, also known as Deepavali will be officially celebrated on Monday, October 24. According to the tradition, oil lamps are installed in front of every home and “Rangolis” of all colors decorate the courtyards and the entrance of the houses.

The Divali festival honors the wife of the god Vishnu, the goddess Luckshmi. Since then, the festival of Divali celebrates the return of Sita with this sacred formula and symbol of peace: “Om Shanti Shanti!”

To celebrate the victory of good over evil, Hindu families prepare some specialties of sweets and cakes and then go to visit their relatives, regardless of their religion. The Divali festival is above all a moment of sharing and unification of all Mauritian communities, whether Muslim, Hindu or Catholic.

Le Matinal Media wishes a happy Divali to all Mauritians of Hindu faith and to all its readers.
