Divali: Chamun Family Prepares To Welcome The Light

Must Read

With Divali just a week away, preparations are well underway. If the houses of Hindu families are already clean and tidy, everything is not finished. They still have to find clothes and prepare the traditional cakes. Follow us to the Chamun’s house in Mahébourg.

It’s been a month since Lovevina and her family have been busy. Aged 22, the young woman does not have a minute to herself. And for good reason, as every year at this period, it is the big cleaning for the approach of the Festival of Light: “To welcome the light, it is important that our house is clean. For the past month, my family and I have been dusting and polishing everything.”

The Chamun prepare an average of 7 varieties of cakes for Divali.

The priority now is to look for something nice to wear, as Lovevina explains: “Again, this is another divali tradition. Indeed, it is always good to wear new clothes that symbolize purity,” Lovevina points out, noting that the installation of diyas and electric garlands will occur only 4 to 5 days before the celebrations.

And who says divali, also says the cakes associated with this festival: “As in many Hindu families, the preparation of gato divali starts the day before. For the occasion, we will bring out of our pots ladoos, rasgullas, jalebis without forgetting the inevitable potato cakes.
