Like many other leading figures, Pravind Jugnauth went to the Moura funeral home in Petite Rivière this morning to pay his last respects to his former Senior Advisor. The Prime Minister said that as recently as Saturday morning he had had a working session with Sir Bhinod Bacha. He added that it was well afterwards that he learned that Sir Bhinod Bacha had been involved in an accident. “I knew of his skills. I knew that he could make a great contribution to the government. He was an excellent colleague. I have very fond memories of him. I’m very sad. We have lost a very valuable man,” he said.

The President of the Republic, Pradeep Roopun, along with several other personalities, came to pay their respects to his remains. “This is a huge loss for the country”, said Pradeep Roopun, pointing out that he and Sir Bhinod Bacha had been close friends at various stages of their lives. For the Head of State, Sir Bhinod Bacha had a lot to share.

Driver of the car remanded in custody until 23 June

The driver of the car that fatally struck Sir Bhinod Bacha was brought before Rose Hill Magistrates’ Court on Monday. Pedaruthsing Guness was provisionally charged with manslaughter. The police objected to his release on bail. He has been remanded in custody until 23 June.
