Yesterday’s third stage of the Tour of Rwanda did Mauritian rider Alexandre Mayer no favors. First with eight points in the best climber classification, Alexandre Mayer suffered a puncture on stage three. As a result, he was unable to claim the points needed to retain his polka-dot jersey.
The 140 km third stage saw Colombian Jhonatan Restrepo win the sprint 3h46’41”. Peter Blackmore and Pepijn Reinderink completed the podium in the same time. The latter took the yellow jersey.
The best Mauritian on this third stage was Christopher Lagane, who took 67th place in 3h58’51”. Alexandre Mayer (77th), Gregory Mayer ((78th) and William Piat (79th) all recorded a time of 4h02’39”, while Hanson Matombé finished 85th in 4h26’39”.
