The vaccination campaign for teenagers aged between 15 and 17 years began on Tuesday, 28 September. The launch of the campaign was at the Phoenix College SSS in the presence of the Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth, the Minister of Health, Dr. Kailesh Jagutpal and the Minister of Education, Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun.
It appears that parents as well as the children concerned welcome this initiative of the government. They say that the vaccination is a protection against the virus, especially with the normal start of the school year scheduled for October 18. From this date onwards, students will be at school 5 days a week instead of only 2 or 3 days a week. As a reminder, vaccination for these children is not mandatory. Those who got vaccinated had to provide the ‘consent form’ signed by their parents.
For this event, our team was present at the Loreto Convent of Quatre Bornes on Wednesday, September 29th. With the number of students present for the vaccination exercise, it is clear that the population is aware of the importance of the vaccine. We have obtained some testimonies from parents who accompanied their children to be vaccinated. They stated their confidence knowing that their daughters will be protected against Covid-19, especially with the start of the school year on October 18th.
