Active cases are on the rise in Rodrigues. As of today, from 26 January to 3 February, the tenth district of Mauritius has 2,205 cases of infection. 11 patients have been placed in isolation at Creve Coeur Hospital, 3 of whom are under artificial respiration. Preliminary tests on 24 positive samples reveal that all 24 represent characteristics related to the Omicron variant, but no official announcement has yet been made on their confirmation by the Central Health Laboratory in Candos. On Thursday 03, at the High Power Committee’s daily press conference, Dr Drac announced that there are no cured Covid 19 patients in Rodrigues yet.
Franchette Gaspard Pierre-Louis said that out of 1,500 ‘Rapid Antigen Tests’ conducted daily in the three Flu Clinics in Creve Coeur, Mont Lubin and La Ferme, about 150 people tested positive. The majority of those infected are teenagers and people under the age of 50, who are asymptomatic. The infected people who are self-isolated at home are monitored by the Domiciliary Monitoring Unit (DMU) and are given necessary medication against Covid 19. Despite the most concerned manifesting for a general lockdown to better contain the contamination, the island continues with a curfew in place from 6pm to 6am. Some elements of the New ENT Hospital delegation, led by Dr Soobaraj Sok Appadoo, returned to Mauritius on Friday.
