Corruption Is Rotting Everything, Including Democracy Says Bérenger

Must Read

The platform L’Espoir was facing the press this morning. Xavier-Luc Duval returned on the economic situation in the country. He said that on the sidelines of the Labor Day, the priorities of the platform remain “the loss of purchasing power, the high cost of living and the impoverishment of the population” and added that most workers have seen their purchasing power eroded in recent times. This means that today, many Mauritians work to survive and not to live. He added that the government “acts irresponsibly”, especially since it is cut off from reality. He returned to the measures that L’Espoir advocates, namely a substantial increase in the minimum wage, the increase of the universal old age pension and the reduction of the fuel tax.  Xavier-Luc Duval listed a series of measures advocated by the L’Espoir platform. But for him, none of them can be implemented without putting an end to the waste of billions of rupees and a review of priority projects.

“Corruption is rotting everything, including democracy”, says Bérenger

The MMM leader said that he “looks beyond the miseries” that the Mauritius Turf Club is enduring. For him, the situation is shocking. He recalled that he has always denounced the money politics in Mauritius. “The money of drugs, corruption and mafia is corrupting everything, including democracy,” he said. For him, this is what is happening. He denounced a plot to kill “the MTC and to recover the Champ de Mars”.  Paul Bérenger commented on the conflict between Terra and the Central Electricity Board. Terragen, the subsidiary of the sugar mill, which is an independent power producer, has ceased operations. According to Paul Bérenger, there is no risk of disruption in the supply of energy. But he has deplored the fact that no one in the government is planning regarding our energy needs.

Bodha: “Drugs and race money will kill democracy”

For Nando Bodha, the government is trying to have a total control over the organization of horse racing to have at its disposal a mine of several million rupees. Most importantly, he denounced a mafia system with the use of the Gambling Regulatory Authority, the Horse Racing Division, the Port Louis City Council, the Attorney General’s Office and the Prime Minister’s Office. “They want to do everything to humiliate the MTCSL and prevent it from having anything to do with the organization of the races,” he said. He added that there are political ramifications behind these attempts. The aim is to amass hundreds of millions of rupees that will be used to influence the elections. “We are moving towards dismantling the current system and replacing it with a mafia system. All of this with a Machiavellian aim. Democracy is in danger. A bit like drug trafficking, drugs and race money will be able to change the fate of Mauritius,” he lamented.
