“Continuity Budget ”, Says Trade Unionist Deepak Benydin

Must Read

This is how the Confederation of Independent Trade Union (CITU) describes the 2021-2022 budget. Hosting a press conference yesterday in Port Louis, the leaders of this trade union confederation say they understand that this budgetary exercise was carried out in a difficult context due to the Covid-19. They say they see that this budget contains measures that have already been announced in the past. They gave an example, the construction of 12,000 social housing units.

According to CITU President Deepak Benydin, nothing has been decided in advance with Covid-19. He was to recall what happened recently in England where Covid-19 had resurfaced. In Mauritius, there is still the rush to buy vaccines and the fear of a few the population about the side effects of vaccines. They therefore ask the government to continue to conduct an awareness campaign on the danger of not getting vaccinated.

The CITU president said he appreciated that the government had made provision for the recruitment of several police officers. But still there is an acute shortage of paramedics.

Regarding the upcoming construction of the college of civil servants, he was to imply that priority should also be given to the training of employees of parastatal bodies.

CITU president, who had Beejaye Bhoomee and Radhakrisna Sadien by his side, said he appreciated the government’s commitment to release the Pay Reseach Bureau (PRB) report this year. He was to point out, however, that the government has yet to communicate the date of publication and not the date of implementation of this report.
