Jurgen Klopp would be happy for Liverpool to play a one-off Carabao Cup semi-final at Arsenal – but expects his call to fall on deaf ears.
The Reds earned their place in the last four with a remarkable quarter-final victory against Leicester City at Anfield on Wednesday night.
Liverpool were 3-1 down at half-time but fought back to draw 3-3 before Caoimhin Kelleher saved two penalties to secure a 5-4 shoot-out triumph.
At present, the semi-finals will take place over two legs, with the Reds due at the Emirates on January 4 or 5 before the return game the following midweek.
But mindful of the growing pressure on the fixture list due to postponements prompted by the spread of the Omicron variant of coronavirus, Klopp has reiterated his preference for a one-off match.
“I think it would be better with one game absolutely, but obviously what I say is not too important,” said the Reds boss.
“If there are two games, then we will play two games. But it would be helpful if there was only one, true.
“The only thing I do with these messages is I create headlines. They never arrive at the right places.
“Tomorrow we have a meeting at 4pm but it’s with the Premier League and not with the EFL, I’m not sure if they are involved or not.”
