If everyone agrees on the eve of the presentation of the Grand Argentier and is agitated around the solutions to be provided, nobody would however wish to be in the place of Renganaden Padayachy to present the Budget in a global context where the economic recovery remains dependent on the effects of the pandemic as much as on unpredictable variants. The collective immunity of the population targeted by the vaccination campaign is not in itself sufficient to envisage the rapid opening of borders. In this context, putting in place reforms to revive the economy and achieve solid growth is proving to be a challenge.
Innovative projects have been set up, useful for creating jobs in the fields of construction, energy, health among others, these measures will not be enough. New pillars must be imagined in order to support the economy and the standard of living of the population, as well as to be able to cross a new level of growth.
It is not for nothing that SAJ inherited the title of father of economic development. He laid the rails for short, medium and long-term development, of which Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth and his government have taken the reins with determination to materialize the achievements currently underway across the country. While the government has provided significant support to businesses to get them through the difficult 2020-2021 period, now is the time to pave the way for a return to strong growth.
Finance Minister Renganaden Padayachy has expressed his goals for 2021, “a year of hope for a gradual and positive economic recovery,” we can only support and encourage him. It is now a question of rebuilding the country by finding the solutions of an essentially solidarity economy.
