The news came as a shock wave on Friday afternoon, November 4. Social activist Bruno Laurette was apprehended at his home in Petit-Verger, Saint Pierre after a large quantity of hashish, 40 kilos, two firearms, ammunition, a satellite phone, and the sum of Rs 80,000 were seized. His son, Ryan, who was also present, was also arrested. These arrests were made by the men of the Special Striking Team (SST) of the police headquarters, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ashik Jagai. The value of the seized drugs is estimated at Rs 200 million.
It was around 1pm that the Laurettes, father and son, were arrested following this raid by the SST at their home in Petit-Verger, Saint Pierre. A raid carried out on the spot made it possible to these police officers to discover several plastic bags containing hashish at its residence and on board its car of the mark BMW, two firearms, ammunition, and a sum of Rs 80 000. As soon as the convoy of police vehicles with these two suspects on board arrived at the Central Barracks, the security level was raised.
According to a source at the Central Barracks, it was because on information from the SST that Bruneau Laurette was involved in drug trafficking that an operation was mounted this afternoon of Friday, November 4 at his home in Petit-Verger, Saint Pierre. This information turned out to be true, because indeed drugs, hashish, were found there. The police also found firearms, ammunition, a satellite phone and Rs 80,000 in different denominations.
In the early evening, a search was made at the residence of Bruneau Laurette’s companion in Calodyne, Grand Gaube. After an hour, no incriminating items were found.
Forensic technicians went to Bruneau Laurette’s home in Saint Pierre to take samples and thoroughly examined his car.
Pending their appearance before the Bail and Remand Court (BRC) this morning, Saturday, November 5, arrangements were made on the evening of Friday, November 4, for Bruneau Laurette to be placed in the Alcatraz Detention Center at Central Barracks and his son Ryan are placed in a cell at the Moka detention center
