British High Commission In Port Louis Donates Rugby Kits To Mauritius

Must Read

In the run up to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, the British High Commission in Port Louis offered a donation from UK charity SOS Kit Aid to the Mauritius Rugby Federation (MRF) during an event at the Cote d’Or Stadium on Tuesday 28 June, 2022.

SOS Kit Aid kindly donated over 600 pieces of rugby equipment ranging from balls to scrumcaps and boots, which will be of considerable help to the MRF in expanding their work and promoting rugby more widely in the country.

The MRF will distribute it to the many teams all over Mauritius, with a focus on the smaller teams from rural areas, which do not always have access to equipment to play the worldwide popular sport.

British High Commission Donates Rugby Kits To Mauritius

‘From 28 July, the West Midlands in the UK will welcome hundreds of high-level athletes from all around the world at one of the biggest sporting and cultural events the UK has ever held, Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. These will be the most sustainable Games; and will have the biggest integrated para sport programme in Commonwealth Games history, featuring more women’s medals than men’s for the first time. As we countdown to Birmingham 2022, the British High Commission is proud to be playing its part in encouraging more Mauritians, particularly youngsters, to try out new sports, including Rugby, which is so significant in the history of the UK. We look forward to supporting future events with the MRF but also to working with the Ministry of Sports and the National Olympic Committee to promote sport all around Mauritius’ said the Deputy British High Commissioner, Ms Sally Harrison.

‘It is with immense pleasure that we welcome this new collaboration with the British High Commission. This collaboration will help in our mission of development and democratising rugby in rural areas as well increase the performance of our national teams.’ said Kevin Venkiah, President of the Mauritius Rugby Federation.
