Boy Dies From Injuries After Water Pump Explosion

Hisham Mohammad Mohamoodally, 5 years old, succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning, October 11, while his mother was taking him to a clinic for treatment. The boy was injured at his home in Circonstance, St-Pierre, on the morning of Tuesday, October 5, after a water pump exploded. After going to the Dr. A.C. Quenum Health Centre in Helvetia for treatment, the child was referred to the Victoria Hospital in Candos. However, his mother preferred to take him home because of the Covid-19.  She had opted for the services of a private medical center for his treatment.

On Monday morning, October 11, around 11:30 am, as his health condition deteriorated, his mother decided to take him to a clinic. The child unfortunately died after receiving treatment. This case was then referred to the Police Medical Officer.

It was the child’s father, a 48-year-old National Transport Authority Senior Vehicle Examiner, who reported the case to the police. In his statement, he explained that on October 5, he received a phone call from his wife while he was at work. It was around 9:50 am. His distraught wife had informed him that their son was injured after a water pump exploded.

The child was immediately taken to the Helvetia health center. After being seen by a doctor. The doctor recommended that he be taken to the hospital in Candos. To avoid a possible contamination, his mother preferred to take him to a private health center.

A team of police officers from the Moka police station was assigned to the case. Elements of the Scene Of Crime Office also went to the scene. The water pump that exploded was seized as evidence for the investigation.

The autopsy performed on the child’s body by Dr. Ananda Sunnasee, Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to sepsis.
