A Trip To The Sea Turns Into A Tragedy For A Plaine-Verte Resident

October 10th will be marked forever for a family of Plaine-Verte.  Naseem Nahoor, 59 years old, also known as Mrs. Bye Raffick, lost her life during a trip to the sea in Belle-Mare. This resident of Paul et Virginie Street, Plaine-Verte drowned after finding herself in difficulty in the lagoon.

In a statement made at the police station of Belle-Mare in the late afternoon of Sunday, October 10, her daughter-in-law, an administrative officer of 37 years old has recounted the circumstances of this drama. In the morning of the same day around 10 am she had arrived on the public beach of Belle-Mare, not far from the Veranda hotel, with members of her family.

Around 12:30 pm some members of the family, including her mother-in-law, Naseem Nahoor her sister-in-law and her brother jumped into the water near the Lux hotel. At some point his mother-in-law and his brother who is 40 years old found themselves in trouble in the water. They were calling for help. The 30-year-old said she tried to help them, but the water was too deep. They were rescued by a skipper in his boat.

Her mother-in-law and brother, who were unconscious, were taken to the beach where they received first aid from Lux Hotel employees before an Emergency Medical Service ambulance arrived on the scene. Naseem Nahoor could not be resuscitated. She was pronounced dead at the Dr Bruno Cheong Hospital in Flacq.

The body was then transported to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis for an autopsy in the late afternoon of Sunday, October 10. The autopsy was performed by Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, head of the forensic department of the police, who attributed his death to asphyxiation due to drowning.

The funeral of Naseem Nahoor took place this Monday, October 11 at 12:30 pm.  After the funeral ceremony at the Sawkat-E-Eslam mosque in Plaine-Verte, she was buried in the cemetery of Riche-Terre.
