During the press conference held on Friday afternoon in Quatre Bornes, Arvin Boolell has called for the departure of the Electoral Commissioner, Irfan Abdool Rahman, and the Chairman of the Electoral Supervisory Commission, Yusuf Aboobaker.
He spoke lengthily on the results of Tuesday’s recount at GMD Atchia College. Referring to the anomalies found, he said it is clear that there are irregularities and this is clearly an electoral fraud in his opinion.
According to Arvin Boolell, “people, who have no connection with the Executive, should be appointed“.
In a ruling issued on Friday 21st January, judges Aruna Devi Narain and Denis Mootoo ordered a partial recount in Constituency no. 19 between defeated MMM candidate Jenny Adebiro and Ivan Collendavelloo, leader of Muvman Liberater.
Arvin Boolell also questioned the statement of the Electoral Commissioner, Irfan Rahman. The latter had asked the police to investigate the anomalies detected during the recount. However, Arvin Boolell stated that this could take forever.
On the trial related to Cader Sayed-Hossen’s election petition in No. 15, Arvin Boolell said he was surprised that Irfan Rahman had asked not to be cross-examined by the lawyers of the defeated candidate.
