BIRMINGHAM 2022: Royal Opening Ceremony

Athletes and officials from the 72 member nations of the Commonwealth paraded last night at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham for the opening ceremony of the 22nd Commonwealth Games in the presence of Prince Charles who declared the Games open.

The Mauritian delegation participating in these Games with Noémie Alphonse as flag bearer was also present.

Several music stars including the group Duran Duran have ignited the stadium with no less than 30 000 spectators and more than 4000 athletes and officials.

Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games - Mauritius Team

The Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Malala Yousafza from Pakistan, emphasized the importance of education, while Prince Charles read the Queen’s message.

The competitions are scheduled to start this Friday with no less than 16 finals in different disciplines.

Mauritian triathletes Laurent L’ Entêté and Julie Staub will be in action this afternoon.
