Bellboy Arrested for Importing Cannabis

A bellman employed on board a ship was arrested on Sunday morning July 31 for importing cannabis. In a joint operation between officers of the Custom Anti Narcotics Section (Cans) of the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) and the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu) of the airport, Avinash Buddynauth, aged 30 and living in La Source, Flacq, who was returning to the country by Emirate Airlines flight EK 701 from Dubai was arrested. This after he was found in possession of a plastic containing 19.72 grams of cannabis, a plastic bag containing five cigarettes stuffed with cannabis and nine hundred and four books of rolling paper. The seized drugs have a street value of Rs 19,720.

It is around 10 am this Sunday, July 31 that this Flacquoi who works as a bell boy on board a ship disembarked at the airport of Plaisance by the flight of Emirate Airlines.  A profiling carried out by officers of the Cans and Adsu allowed Avinash Buddynauth to be arrested for a search. This one was not to give anything on his person. It is in his rolling paper that cannabis leaves were discovered in a stainless steel pepper mill. These notebooks of rolling paper and these five cigarettes stuffed with cannabis were in this same bag.

After a first night in a cell at the Grand-Bois police station, Avinash Buddynauth was brought before the court of Mahébourg this Monday morning, August 1, on a provisional charge of importation of cannabis. He was then taken back into police custody.
