Jean Ivan Billy Chitie, 26 years old and resident of Malgalkhan City, Floréal was brought before the Bail and Remand Court (BRC) in Port-Louis, this Saturday morning, July 23. This after he was arrested in the early hours of the morning for attempted robbery by two police officers from Clarisse House. He was caught kneeling in front of the door of the Ministry of Agriculture building located at the back of Clarisse House removing a window panel.
It was shortly after 3 am on Saturday, July 23, that a VIPSU police officer reported the case to the Vacoas police station. In his statement he explained that he was on patrol in uniform at Clarisse House around midnight five this Saturday, July 23, in the company of a colleague when he surprised an individual wearing a green jacket and black pants at the back of Clarisse House. This man, he said, was exactly in front of the Ministry of Agriculture building. He was on his knees and was removing the glass panel from a door.
When he saw them, the suspect had to take off in the direction of River Walk. After a chase he was caught and arrested with a bag of tools in his possession. When questioned about his presence at this location, he said, “mo pe la sass tang la mwa, sa bann zoutil laki avek mwa la, sa mo servi pou trasman viy feray sa missie”.
He was arrested by police officers at the Vacoas police station and was subsequently placed in the Vacoas detention center until his appearance before the BRC.
