Assistant Police Superintendent Arrested For Domestic Violence

Must Read

“Si to pa sorti depi sa lakaz la, mo pou enterre twa avek ene kouto. This was the threat made by a 61-year-old Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) to his 31-year-old wife early Wednesday evening, December 14. The policewoman reported a case of domestic violence against her husband in the evening at the Lalmatia police station where she works. She also reported a police sergeant from Brisée Verdière for not intervening while her husband assaulted her in her presence. The ASP was arrested Thursday morning, December 15, for violating the Domestic Violence Act. After being arraigned in Flacq Court, he was released on bail.

The officer explained that at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14, she was in her bedroom when her husband arrived. He took her cell phone and started going through her messages. She said she reprimanded him for his action. Her husband was so upset that he had to throw the phone forcefully in her direction. She was hit in the upper lip and it caused a swelling. Immediately afterwards, he left for an unknown destination.

It was around 5 p.m. when she contacted her husband about a money matter. Furious, he started to insult her and threatened to attack her with a knife. Back home in Brisée Verdière at about 6:30 p.m., her husband started looking for knives, apparently, to attack her. Without wasting any time, the police officer immediately made a request to the Brisée Verdière police station. Shortly thereafter, a team of police officers, led by a police sergeant, arrived.

In the meantime, the police sergeant locked himself in a room. The policewoman then tried to open this door with a double key. At the same time, her husband came out and tried to take the key by force. During this struggle, she was bitten on her right hand and the sergeant, who was present, did not intervene. He left with his whole team. As soon as these officers left, her husband, the ASP, told her, “Si to pa sorti depi sa lakaz la, mo pou enterre twa avek ene kouto.

Fearing that her husband might carry out his threat, the policewoman left the marital home and went to a friend’s house in Poste de Flacq and then to the Dr. Bruno Cheong Hospital for treatment. The officer, who was scheduled to work overnight, starting at 10:30 p.m., has indicated that she is ill.

The ASP assigned to the Metropolitan Police of the North Division, who was not found at home on Wednesday evening, December 14, was arrested this Thursday morning, December 15, by elements of the Family Protection Brigade.
