Altéo Ltd Employee Seriously Injured

A 24 year old installer working at the Altéo plant in Fuel was seriously injured on Thursday afternoon of February 9 at his workplace. This resident of Le Mahot, Trou d’Eau Douce was greasing a cable on a crane at a height of 50 meters when his seatbelt suddenly became entangled in a rolling device. The young man was rushed to the Dr. Bruno Cheong Hospital in Flacq where he was admitted. His condition is considered serious.

It was shortly before 4 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, that this work accident occurred. The police station of Flacq which was immediately alerted, dispatched a team on the spot. The men of sergeant Pem had to learn that this employee was on a crane at a height of 50 meters from the ground to grease a cable. At some point his seatbelt became entangled in a rolling device. This worker was thrown against the metal structure of the crane. The crane was immediately stopped, but the young man suffered serious injuries.

His colleagues came to his rescue and pulled him off the height. An ambulance from the Service d’Aide Médicale d’Urgence was called to Altéo to evacuate him to the hospital in Flacq. After receiving treatment, he was transported to the northern hospital for a CT scan. The injured man was then taken back to the northern hospital where he was admitted to the ward.

The supervisor of this work site and his two colleagues who witnessed this accident were questioned by the investigators, but they opted to give their statements in the presence of a lawman. The injured man who was still undergoing treatment and suffering from pain could not give his statement to explain the exact circumstances of this accident.
