Alleged Diesel Trafficking: Fishing Boat Intercepted In Black River

A patrol by elements of the National Coast Guard (NCG) intercepted the Taiwanese fishing boat, Hung Jie Wei N0 21, off the coast of Black River on Wednesday, December 21. A search of the vessel revealed more than 40,000 liters of diesel in its hold. The NCG suspects that the crew members are engaged in diesel trafficking on the high seas.

It was while NCG men were on sea patrol on the evening of Wednesday, December 21 that the Hung Jie Wei N0 21 was seen sailing in our waters. The suspicious presence of this Taiwanese fishing vessel awakened the NCG. Thus, it was taken under surveillance before the NCG men boarded the vessel for a verification.

This boat with its crew members on board was escorted to the Port-Louis roadstead where it was placed under police surveillance.

An investigation was initiated at the NCG of Black River to shed light on this case.
