Al-Khizr Ramdin’s Summons Postponed Until 10 Am Today

Must Read

The Radio Plus journalist was summoned to Pope Hennessy police station on Wednesday. He recounted the scenario of Wednesday’s events as he left the Supreme Court on Wednesday. He made an attempt, with the help of solicitor Ayesha Jeewa, to contest his summons. He confirmed that ACP Gokhool and Constable Jeetoo had filed a complaint against him for ‘molesting public official’ and ‘disturbance’. In his complaint, ACP Gokhool accused Al Khizr Ramdin of making inappropriate comments about him in the Port Louis District Court on Tuesday 16 May. This was during the appearance of lawyer Rama Valayden.  It was during the hearing of lawyer Rama Valayden’s motion to strike the provisional charges against him after his arrest by the Special Striking Team (SST). There was a heated exchange as the police barred the journalist from the courtroom. According to the CPA, the journalist was denied access to the courtroom because there was no room inside. However, a few minutes later, a Court Manager intervened to allow Al Khizr Ramdin access.

He claimed that the police called him several times to respond to the summons as soon as possible. He claimed that he had information that the police wanted to arrest him. That is why he filed a motion to contest his summons. However, while he was in court, his lawyers were informed by another assistant police commissioner that the summons was postponed for today, 18 May, at 10:00 am. The senior police officer gave an undertaking that there would be no arrest before.
