Ahmad Jeewah has been chosen to replace Khalid Tegally, who died in early August as thenew Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission. The swearing-in ceremony of the new Chairperson was held today at the State House, Réduit, in the presence of the President of the Republic of Mauritius.
Mr Ahmad Jeewah expressed his thanks to the Prime Minister and the President for having placed their trust and confidence in him to be the Chairperson of the EOC. He also gave the assurance that he will fully assume his responsibilities in all fairness, and paid tribute to his predecessor for the good work carried out so far.
Former MMM MP, Ahmad Jeewah was at one time very popular in the MMM leadership but some time of that, he had lost his bases in constituency no 2. He left the MMM in 2019. At that time many left the MMM. If not all of them announced their intention to join the MSM, in the wake of Steven Obeegadoo and his gang as well as Kavi Ramano, some even thought that the MSM was going to present him as the next President of the Republic.
The EOC is an independent statutory body set up under the Equal Opportunities Act 2008.
