ACP Gangadin Filed A Complaint Against The DPP’s Office After The Latter’s Response To Police Allegations

Must Read

In a press release issued on Monday 18 March, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions responded to a press conference held by a police officer on Friday 15 March 2024 on the subject of “fixed penalty notices”. The DPP’s Office maintains that it was not informed of any problems or alleged cases of abuse of justice by the police prior to this press conference.

During the press conference, ACP Gungadin made serious allegations against the DPP’s Office, describing them as “gratuitous, baseless and scandalous”. The DPP’s Office deplores these defamatory statements made in the absence of any relevant facts while the investigations are still underway, which is an unprecedented situation.

The DPP’s office also highlights the designation of a judicial officer by the police officer, an action that is both morally and legally reprehensible.

The press release states that a few weeks ago the DPP’s office was informed by the press of an alleged irregularity in the processing of fixed penalty fines. As a result, an internal investigation was carried out, which revealed that all established procedures were scrupulously followed and no anomalies were detected.

If misleading information was provided to the DPP’s Office by members of the public, a police investigation is warranted to bring those individuals to justice. However, the press release states that the police officer appears to have acted with the aim of tarnishing the reputation of the Office and its officers. This is a form of intimidation that the Office will not tolerate.

The DPP’s Office affirms that it will firmly await the results of the police investigation and reserves the right to take civil and/or criminal action against the concerned officer.

The communiqué from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has given me more courage to fight corruption”. ACP Dhunraz Gangadin’s statement on the defimedia.info challenge was made this Monday afternoon on 18 March. ACP Gangadin has filed a complaint against the DPP’s office with the Central CID. In a statement issued by the DPP’s office, he criticized an act of “Victimization Under PoCa [Prevention of Corruption Act]” directed at him. “I have made up my mind to bring this to an end. The truth will eventually come out. I’m not backing down, I’m not a coward,” he proclaimed.
