ACIM Rally Postponed: New Constraints By The Police

Must Read

A new twist! ACIM has been forced to postpone its rally against the high cost of living to the day before Saturday, while on this very day, Jayen Chellum held a press conference to proudly announce a multi-organization rally for this Saturday.

Jayen Chellum will hold another press conference to announce the real reasons for the postponement of the Saturday 30 April rally scheduled to take place in the capital at 2 pm. At this stage, he says that “we have received new instructions from the Office of the Commissioner of Police this afternoon. The old recommendations have been changed and this leaves us no choice but to postpone the rally for a later date. I will say more at the press conference. I ask the population to follow the press conference live on the online press. We have a lot to say about these police constraints!”

The recommendations for the 30 April rally were as follows: demonstrators should be easily identifiable by the police, carrying flags, banners and other identifying features. Slogans on placards should not be insulting or offensive to anyone in particular, demonstrators in cars should stay in their vehicles, not stop during the procession and drive in a way that does not create traffic jams. The number of 50 people had to be respected.

At the press conference on 28 April, the Secretary General of ACIM said that there were no objections from the police and proudly announced that he had been joined this time by several trade unions, political parties and socio-political representatives. He asked the population to come massively, on foot, on motorbikes and in cars, for the common objective of pushing the government to lower the prices of petrol and household gas, to abolish the unfair and abusive taxes on fuel, to fight against the high prices imposed on commodities and the maneuvers that led to the increases being passed on to consumers.
