Accident: Three Deaths Recorded On Our Roads This Weekend

Three new victims have been added to the black list of road accidents this weekend. The latest is Jaikishan Reedoye, 62 years old who lost his life. He was hit by a 4 x 4 on the Royal Road in St-Aubin on Sunday evening, September 19. On Saturday, September 18, Jean Baptiste Julie, a 20-year-old gym instructor, was killed on his motorcycle after it skidded off the road and collided head-on with a van on the Route Royale in Salazie.  In the early hours of the same day, Abdoos Shakoor Abdool Hakim, 78, succumbed to his injuries at the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis, where he had been admitted since Sunday, September 5. This septuagenarian who lived in Beau-Bassin was hit by a car on Desforges Street, Port-Louis.

This Sunday, September 19, at about 7:30 pm, the driver of a 4-wheel drive vehicle hit a pedestrian, Jaikishan Reedoye, who lived in the locality on the Route Royale in St. Aubin. The driver, who lives on Chemin Grenier, continued on his way to the Eel River police station. Seriously injured, the personnel of an ambulance of the Emergency Medical Service (Samu), who were called to the scene, could unfortunately only note the death of Jaikishan Reedoye.  His body was taken to the Victoria Hospital morgue in Candos for an autopsy on Monday, September 20.

On Saturday, September 18, it is around 10 o’clock in the morning. A team of police officers from the St-Pierre police station went to the Royal Road in Salazie following a request. A Tardo motorcycle had collided with a van.  The van was driven by a 61 year old construction supervisor from Ripailles. The motorcycle, driven by Baptiste Julie, was coming from Brisée-Verdière and was heading towards St-Pierre. The young man lost control of his two-wheeled vehicle before colliding head-on with the oncoming van. The impact of the collision was so severe that the motorcyclist’s foot was trapped under the front grill of the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the doctor on board a Samu ambulance.

The driver was given a breathalyzer test which was negative. After giving his statement, he was released on parole. This Monday, September 20, he will have to appear before the court of Moka, under a provisional charge of manslaughter. The body of the victim was autopsied at the Victoria Hospital morgue on Saturday afternoon, September 18. The autopsy was performed by Dr. Maxwell Monvoisin, Principal Police Medical Officer, who attributed his death to multiple injuries.

As for Shakoor Abdool Hakim, he breathed his last in the surgical ward of the intensive care unit of Dr. Jeetoo Hospital on Sunday, September 19 at around 12:15 am. He had been admitted there since September 5. On that day, it was 12:20 am, when this Beaubassinois was hit by a car on Desforges Street, Port-Louis. The car was driven by a 21 year old Middlesex University student. The autopsy performed on Sunday, September 20, attributed the cause of death of Shakoor Abool Hakim to multiple injuries.
