Devastated Sergio Aguero breaks down in tears before he can even start to announce his retirement, aged 33, at a special ceremony, after doctors told Man City legend to quit over his heart problems.

Sergio Aguero was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat after experiencing breathing issues and chest discomfort while playing for Barca against Alaves earlier this season; 33-year-old Argentine set to retire after a glittering 16-year career.

A tearful Sergio Aguero has announced his retirement from football at the age of 33 after a heart problem was discovered on his first start for new club Barcelona.

The Argentine striker, who moved to the Catalans from Manchester City earlier this year, was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia after experiencing chest pains on the pitch and has now made the heartbreaking decision to hang up his boots.

In an emotional press conference at the Nou Camp on Wednesday, Aguero detailed his decision and answered questions from the media and an audience including Pep Guardiola.

He was taken to hospital after Barcelona’s 1-1 draw with Alaves in October after experiencing chest pains and breathing difficulties during the game.

Aguero signed for Barca in the summer on a free transfer from Manchester City, where he had scored 184 goals in 275 Premier League appearances to become the club’s all-time top scorer.
