The events took place at the Abercrombie police station. The police officer was with a drug user in the toilets. The incident took place on Tuesday, January 23. Police officer Zyad Ally Peeroo, 44, had been under surveillance by his colleagues for some time. Suspecting something fishy, officers from Abercrombie’s drug squad burst into the washroom for a check. They noticed that one of the doors was locked and quickly deduced that the two men, including the policeman, were inside. Evidence was seized at the scene. A search of officer Peeroo’s home in Pailles turned up a container of methadone. The officer was arrested and charged under the Dangerous Drugs Act in the Port-Louis court and returned to police custody.
