Ravin Jugurnauth, the defeated MMM candidate for No. 14 in the last legislative elections, will head the Savanne District Council. He was elected this morning in the presence of Ministers Renganaden Padayachy and Kailesh Jagutpal, the elected members from constituency no. 13. PPS Prakash Ramchurrun, elected in constituency no. 14, was also present. This is the 5th time that Ravin Jugurnauth has been elected to head this District Council. He replaces Narainsamy Seeneevassen. Rajiv Kumar Lutchmun is the new deputy chairman.
To the press reporters after his election, Ravin Jugurnath said it was agreed that an elected representative from a village falling in constituency No. 14 should head the District Council. When asked about a member of the MMM heading the District Council, he said there was nothing political about the election.
