First cyclone bulletin for Rodrigues issued at 1610 hours on 29 January 2022
At 1600 hours, the severe tropical storm Batsirai was centred at about 720 km almost to the east northeast of Rodrigues, in latitude 18.0 degrees south and longitude 70.0 degrees east.
It is moving in a general westerly direction at about 15 km/h.
On this trajectory, Batsirai is approaching Rodrigues and constitutes a potential threat to the island. Active clouds associated with Batsirai are expected to start influencing weather over the island as from tomorrow afternoon.
A cyclone warning class I is in force in Rodrigues
The public in Rodrigues is advised to take preliminary precautions.
Weather will be partly cloudy tonight and tomorrow morning with few light showers.
It will become gradually cloudy to overcast in the afternoon with intermittent rain. The rains will be moderate at times tomorrow night with thunderstorm .
Wind will blow from the southeast about 40 km/h, strengthening tomorrow evening with gusts reaching 90 km/h.
The sea will be rough with swells becoming very rough tomorrow. Venture at sea is not advised.
