4-Year-Old Admitted To ICU After Car And SUV Collision

Six occupants of a car were injured on the evening of Friday, January 6, in an accident on Route Royale in Pointe du Diable. One of the occupants of the vehicle, a 4 year old child, was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Jawaharlall Nehru Hospital in Rose-Belle for observation. This accident involved a Toyota Hilux SUV. The driver abandoned his vehicle to flee. This Saturday morning, January 7, he was apprehended by police officers of the police station of Vieux Grand Port.

It was around 9:45 pm on the evening of Friday, January 6 that this accident occurred on the Royal Road of Pointe du Diable. A Nissan orange car and a white Toyota Hilux collided. The impact was of a rare violence that both vehicles were seriously damaged. The men of the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Service were ordered to the scene to extract the 36 year old driver and a 60 year old woman from the car.

These two injured persons were evacuated to Rose-Belle Hospital on board an ambulance of the Emergency Medical Service which was called to the scene of the accident.  The other injured were a 3 year old child, a 4 year old child, a 31 year old man who was released from the hospital after receiving treatment and a 36 year old woman. The occupants of this car, all members of a family live in the village of L’Escalier.

The driver of the SUV was brought before the court in Mahebourg this Saturday morning, January 7th. He is facing a provisional charge of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
