25-Year-Old Dies Of Drug Overdose In St. Croix

Must Read

The drug made a new victim this Saturday, July 2nd. A 25 year old bricklayer living in Cité Briquetterie, Sainte-Croix was taken to the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis in the evening of the same day after being found in an abandoned house on Avenue Abercrombie, Sainte-Croix by one of his friends. Unfortunately, the doctor on duty was only able to confirm his death. An autopsy performed on his body on Sunday, July 3, attributed his death to acute pulmonary edema, probably caused by an overdose.

The Abercrombie, St. Croix Police Station was alerted to the case and was to dispatch a police sergeant to the scene at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 2. This police officer was informed that the youth, who is a known repeat offender, was already dead when he arrived at the hospital. Police officers then went to the abandoned house for a report. Forensic technicians were called to the site to collect evidence.

On Sunday morning, July 3, the man’s body was autopsied at the Dr. Jeetoo Hospital morgue by Dr. Ananda Sunnassee, Police Medical Officer. He attributed the cause of death to acute pulmonary edema. This would have been caused by an overdose. Samples were taken for toxicology analysis at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Reduit.
