La Roja having more experience playing together for several years, most of this team having won the European Championship of the U19 in 2019 will have to have the upper hand.
Brazil advances quietly
Brazil are the defending champions and have won a medal in the last three Olympics, so it was no surprise to see them take things seriously.
Everton striker Richarlison was the star of the group stage, scoring a hat trick in a 4-2 win over Germany and a brace as Saudi Arabia were beaten 3-1. He is the tournament’s top scorer.Hertha Berlin striker Matheus Cunha helped the Selecao to a 1-0 win over Egypt, but penalties were needed to break the deadlock against Mexico.
Brazil will always be tough to beat, but we just think Spain has the players to control the midfield and that can test the Selecao’s resolve.
Spain is valiant
Spain wants to do well in Tokyo, with several marginal Euro 2020 players joining Real Madrid duo Marco Asensio and Dani Ceballos.
It’s been a bit of a struggle to get to this point, with La Rojita struggling to translate much possession and good field position into goals.
The Ivory Coast gave them a scare in the quarterfinals but were eventually beaten 5-2 in extra time, with Rafa Mir netting a hat trick.
Spain again showed there was no concern about their fitness when they finally wore down the Japanese hosts in the semifinals with a great shot from Asensio in the 115th minute.
