17-Year-Old Charged With Assault On Police Officer

A 17-year-old minor, living in the village of Poudre d’Or, was brought before the court of Flacq on Tuesday, October 26, on a provisional charge of assaulting a police officer. This offence was committed shortly after midday on Monday 25 October when he opposed his arrest during a road check in Mare d’Australia. As the police did not object to his release on bail.

It is shortly after 12 o’clock on Monday 25 October. Two policemen from the police station of Brisée-Verdière are stationed on the Royal Road of Mare-Australia for a road check. One of the two policemen signaled to a motorcyclist who was driving in the direction of Pont Praslin to stop. But the driver continued on his way. The two policemen then had to run behind the motorcycle. At a certain point, it stopped and the driver had to flee on foot into a bush.

The rump passenger, who was not wearing a mask, was subdued after he tried to resist arrest. This after he inflicted a violent blow to the chest of one of the two policemen. The teenager was then taken to the Brisée-Verdière police station for questioning. A search of his body revealed a pocket knife and a sum of Rs 15,620.

He was released on parole after giving his statement in the presence of his father. The latter confirmed to the police that the money found in his son’s possession belongs to him. It was intended for the purchase of a motorcycle. Thus, this money was then returned to him. The black Haojue motorcycle was seized for investigation. Its driver is actively sought by the police.

This Tuesday morning, October 26, the teenager went to the police station of Brisée Verdière for the formality of his appearance before the court. As the police did not object, he was released on bail.
