Two Young People Killed In An Accident In Pomponette

135 deaths. This is the heavy toll recorded since the beginning of this year in road accidents. The latest was an accident on the Route Royale in Pomponette. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, December 26, a car collided violently with a roadside filao before bursting into flames. The two occupants of the Toyota Corolla, Ourvershsingh Choolye, 25, and Sadir Bakey, 16, both residents of Morcellement VRS, Souillac, managed to get out of the vehicle and onto the road. Both were evacuated to Souillac hospital for treatment. Ourveshsingh Choolye unfortunately did not survive his injuries. The teenager Sadur Bakey also died shortly afterwards.

At around 00:15 on Tuesday December 26, a white Toyota Corolla collided head-on with a filao on the Route Royale in Pomponette. The vehicle immediately caught fire. The driver, Ourveshsingh Choolye, and the passenger beside him, Sadir Baley, managed to get out of the burning vehicle.

On arrival at Souillac police station, the two young men were lying on the ground off the road. They were rushed to hospital in Souillac. The car was completely engulfed in flames. Elements of the Mauriitus Fire and Rescue Service were sent to the scene of the accident. Wreckage was found near a filao tree on the left of the road. This tree bore fresh traces of the impact of the collision.

Ourvesingh Choolye died in the emergency department, where he was treated for his injuries. Sadir Bakey was in the Emergency Medical Service ward for treatment. He did not survive his injuries. Both bodies were subsequently transported to the morgue of Victoria Hospital, Candos, for treatment.

An investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances of this tragedy. The 24-year-old owner of the car, who also lives in Morcellement VRS, Souillac, was questioned by the police, who explained that the two victims were having a few drinks with him. At some point, Ourveshsingh Choolye would have taken his car on leave.

The autopsy performed on the bodies of both victims attributed Sadir Bakey’s death to intracranial haemorrhage and Ourveshsingh Choolye’s to multiple injuries.
