Two Known Repeat Offenders And Teenage Murder Suspect Arrested In Montagne-Blanche

Three suspects have been apprehended by the Montagne-Blanche Criminal Investigation Division (CID) in the wake of the investigation into the murder of Devnarainsing Shiblall, a 54-year-old plowman on Friday, May 6. They are, a 19-year-old girl, Ashna Bundhun who was arrested this Monday morning of May 9 and two notorious recidivists, Arassen Ramasawmy, alias Rap, years old and Sahib Jamal Ahmad, 30 years old who were arrested during the day of Saturday May 7. These three suspects were handed over to the investigators of the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) of the Northern Division.

These two men were brought before the court in Moka on Monday morning, May 9. They are facing a provisional charge of murder. They were first brought before the Bail and Remand Court in Port Louis on Sunday, May 8.

Devnarainsing Shiblall was found dead and covered with a mattress at about 5:10 p.m. on Friday, May 6, in the basement of a house he was renting. The owner, a 55-year-old man, alerted the police after making the gruesome discovery. The victim’s hands and feet were bound with a piece of cloth. Dr. Ananda Sunnassee, Police Medical Officer who performed the autopsy attributed the death to asphyxiation. The fifty-year-old was suffocated.

It was an operation conducted by the men of Inspector Moosun and sergeants Luchmun and Jaunbocus of the Montagne-Blanche CID that led to the arrest of Arassen Ramasawmy and Shahib Ahmad during the day of Saturday, May 7, for a theft case. The case was reported to the Montagne-Blanche Police Station on Thursday, May 5. A 58-year-old man had reported the theft of a water pressurizer, a gas cylinder, a kerosene lamp, an electric mixer and a flashlight tube. The whole is estimated at Rs 10 000. In his statement, the fifty-year-old said he suspected his daughter, Ashna Bundhun to be the author of this theft who has bad company.

The two notorious recidivists who are friends of Ashna Bundhun were arrested on Saturday. With this teenager, they are suspected to have gone to the home of Devnarainsing Shiblall. They were seen on surveillance cameras not far from the victim’s home. All three suspects will be subjected to close questioning by MCIT investigators and Ashna Bundhun is expected to be brought before the Moka court this Tuesday, May 10, on a provisional charge of murder.

Warren Duijeet and Jean Brandon Westino Marguerite arrested

A joint operation by the CID of Montagne Blanche and the MCIT in the afternoon of Monday, May 9, led to the arrest of Warren Duijeet, a notorious 39-year-old recidivist, and Jean Brandon Westino Marguerite, 22 years old, known to the police. Both suspects live in the village of Montagne Blanche. They confessed to have during a burglary with the complicity of a third suspect took away a television set before killing the fifty-year-old. This television set was recovered by the investigators. The two notorious repeat offenders arrested Saturday are suspected of having taken money from Devnarainsing Shiblall on several occasions. Warren Duijeet, Brandon Marguerite and Ashna Bundhun will be brought before the Moka court this Tuesday morning, May 10.
