Two individuals, armed with box cutters, attacked two French women on the Morne Brabant mountain in the afternoon of Monday, December 20. The women, commercial agents, aged 30 and 32 respectively, were on a hike when two men came out of a bush to attack them. They were robbed of their belongings and a sum of Rs 7500 each. The loot taken is estimated at Rs 200 000.
The two French women, who are staying at the RIU Hotel in Le Morne, arrived in Mauritius on Saturday 18 December and were due to leave the country on Thursday 30 December. This Monday, December 20, they decided to go for a hike and went to the mountain of Morne Brabant. Around 2:30 pm on Monday, December 20, they came across two dark-skinned men, who came out of a bush, wearing black surgical masks. One wore a black hat and a blue mask, the second man wore a blue hood.
They were threatened with a box cutter that one of the two men was holding in his hand. The woman, aged 30, was forced to hand over her dark blue Hershel bag, which contained an Apple iPhone 13, a pair of Balenciaga sunglasses and a sum of Rs 7500. Her friend was robbed of an Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max of dark blue color, a pair of sunglasses of Gucci brand and the sum of Rs 7500.
The two thieves had to take the direction of the mountain to disappear. The stolen goods are estimated at Rs 200 000. The Criminal Investigation Division of Black River has been seized of this investigation to trace the perpetrators of this theft.
