Must Read

The unions had until yesterday to submit their briefs to the Minister of Labor in the framework of the tripartite negotiations on salary compensation. The CTSP submitted its brief yesterday in this sense. It states that the proposed wage compensation should be accompanied by government measures and a subsidy on meat and chilled fish should be applied by the government. The president of the CTSP, Reaz Chuttoo emphasizes that the workers at the bottom of the scale should be properly compensated and proposes that the workers, who are receiving the minimum wage, should receive a wage compensation of Rs 400 to Rs 425. The proposal for the other categories of workers is a wage compensation of Rs 400 across the board until June 2022 and an additional compensation of Rs 200 until July 2022.

The CTSP proposes that a general compensation of Rs 400 be paid to all workers until June 2022, a general compensation of Rs 200 be paid to all workers in July 2022, and that the government subsidize basic food items such as frozen meat, fish, etc. The threshold for payment of negative income tax should be increased from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 25,000 on total earnings and the basic salary from Rs. 9,900 to Rs. 11,500. That the government should financially support all businesses with audited financial constraints in the form of soft loan for payment of wage compensation.”

She also asks the government not to forget the Basic Retirement Pension beneficiaries.

Although the revision of the Basic Retirement Pension (BRP) is a budgetary exercise, the C.T.S.P. appeals to the government to compensate with a 4% increase in the BRP and other social benefits.”
