Tragic Death Of A 20-Month-Old Baby

The Putchay family of Tyack, Eel River was the victim of a terrible tragedy this Saturday evening, March 26. Their only son, Jeslem Putchay, aged one year and eight months, was taken to the Jawaharlall Nehru Hospital in Rose-Belle with a serious head injury.

The child was on the shoulders of his father, Joshen Putchay, a 42-year-old driver, who was playing with him when he suffered the accidental fall. The child died on Sunday morning, March 27. The autopsy performed the same day attributed his death to a skull fracture.

Joshen Putchay was arrested and taken into custody at the Bel Ombre police station. He was brought before the Souillac court this Monday morning, March 28, where he is facing a provisional charge of manslaughter. The father was released on bail of Rs 20,000 and later attended the funeral of his son.

Life came to a halt at Putchay’s home in Impasse Road, Tyack. There was no indication that anything dramatic was going to happen on that Saturday evening, March 26. Jeslem Putchay was the joy of his family. On the shoulders of his father who was playing with him, the child suddenly tilted backwards and landed on the ground at around 9 pm. Jeslem Putchay was crying and bleeding from his mouth. His father was stunned by the scene.

The child was rushed to the Rose-Belle hospital. After receiving treatment, he was admitted to pediatric ward 0.6 at 10:13 p.m. On Sunday morning, March 27, policewoman Bhoonye, assigned to the police station of this hospital institution, was informed that Jeslem Putchay died around 8:30 am.  The body of this little boy was transferred to the morgue of the Victoria Hospital, Candos for an autopsy. The autopsy, performed by Dr. Sheila Jankee Parsad, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to an extradural hemorrhage caused by a skull fracture.

The investigation in this case is conducted by the men of the Criminal Investigation Division of Eel River, under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police, Sailesh Kumar Omrawoo.
