Figures published by the Mauritius Bureau of Statistics for the year 2023 reveal that 1,295,410 tourists visited Mauritius, bringing the total close to the 1.3M mark.
Over 99% of all tourist flux in 2022 and 2023 came from air arrivals, which was the primary driver of the expansion. With 635,663 men and 659,747 women, the gender ratio is again roughly balanced. However, there were somewhat more female arrivals in 2023 than there were in 2022 (503,952). This is a reflection of this market segment’s growing appeal. In specifics, Europe still leads with 834,825 arrivals in 2023 compared to 674,511 in 2022. With 319,522 visitors in 2023 compared to 238,684 the year before, the French market is far ahead.
The British market is also growing, with 145,873 arrivals forecast for 2023, compared with 140,847 in 2022. The German market is also growing, from 97,767 visitors in 2022 to 118,546 in 2023. In Africa, the number of visitors for 2023 is 292,503, compared with 207,010 in 2022. Our neighbours on the sister island made the difference, with 134 222 arrivals recorded for 2023 qgqin 73 336 for 2022.
